Internships

2012 College-Aged Internship

Pennypack Farm & Education Center is a non-profit, 350-member CSA in Horsham PA, just minutes away from northwest Philadelphia. We are seeking 3 interns for the 2012 season. Our internship program is designed for college students who are interested in sustainable agriculture. Many of you will be pursuing degrees in environmental science, horticulture and related fields. However, others of you will be musicians, writers, artists….the commonality is a commitment to fresh local, organically grown food and healthy living.
In this internship, you will come to appreciate:
  • How sustainable agricultural practices support good land stewardship
  • The importance of farm-based education
  • The social/community-building value of CSA farming
·         We require that you have housing in our area and reliable transportation to the farm.
·         Your hours will vary…some days begin at 6:30am and other days begin at 8am.
·         Interns are expected to work 40 hours a week for 14 weeks depending on your college schedule, usually mid-May to late-August.  1 or 2 weeks of vacation may be scheduled in advance.
·         The internship stipend is $2,000 for the summer, plus workman’s compensation.
·         You must be physically fit, able to lift 50 pounds, and able to work under adverse conditions such as rain, heat, humidity, and cold.
·         You will participate in our cooperative lunches: cooking, washing up and eating delicious, fresh, local food. (We can accommodate dietary restrictions)
Interviews will be conducted in March. Please submit a writing sample addressing the following questions to Raina Ainslie: education@pennypackfarm.org by February 1st 2012.
